Community of Practice (CoP) is a weekly safe space for our faculty across disciplines, programs and universities to connect with each other to discuss emerging higher education trends, strategies for effective curricula building, and synchronous facilitation. All of the conversations are faculty-led, with 2U facilitation.
As we facilitate these weekly CoP sessions, below are three takeaways from these sessions.
- Adjunct faculty who are starting their teaching careers oftentimes feel isolated and alone in the teaching world. Many professors have stated that there are limited spaces for them to connect with other faculty from their departments, disciplines and other universities, aside from meetings with their course leads or course directors.
Student engagement and tools for equity are popular topics amongst the Community of Practice professors. There is an acknowledgement from professors that the emerging tools in educational technology are so vast with many updates - that it makes it intimidating to choose which one is the most effective. In our Communities of Practice spaces we work together to brainstorm and address the challenges while celebrating the benefits of incorporating tools in your class
These conversations in our Community of Practice are faculty-led, are not recorded and are a safe space to share ideas and questions. Faculty have used this time to ask for feedback, suggestions and ideas to problems they have encountered through the online teaching process.
In our community of practice sessions, we implement safe and brave space guidelines for our faculty to discuss any topics or concerns they have. These sessions are not recorded and "Vegas rules" also apply. If you are interested in joining our weekly sessions, you can sign up HERE. We hope to see you there!
